Doctoral degree in Education, Educational Psychology, Medicine or a related field.
Minimum 2 years of experience in academic and/or career counseling in a higher education setting.
To provide expertise in planning, implementing and evaluating of medical programs and students in collaboration with the faculty to assess student needs
Salary is commensurate with experience.

Specific Job Related Duties
The Sr. Specialist for Learning and Career Counseling will provide professional expertise and leadership for the Office of Academic Support and Career Counseling (ASCC) in the School of Medicine. Serve as a learning skills specialist by providing assessment and support of medical students. The incumbent will supervise and coordinate the student tutor and mentor program for the School of Medicine.
Job Related Duties
Provide hands-on learning skills training to include test-taking skills, study skills, reading skills, critical thinking/reading skills, time management, and other skills as identified during evaluation and assessment;
Maintain database systems for tracking at-risk students and issues pertinent to the success of the program;
Assist with planning and administration of USMLE preparatory programs, Step 1 peer mentoring programs, study workshops, residency preparation activities, and courses for Step I and Step II preparation;
Provide classroom instruction for various summer program participants associated with prematriculation;
Assess students for learning issues and assist them in remediation of identified issues;
Provide career counseling to Year 1 through Year 4 medical students to include an understanding of career development, career theory, as it applies to the medical student/physician;
Assist with residency application issues, CV and personal statement development as well as review prior to submission;
Manage the formal tutor and mentor program;
Screen for and manage issues that interfere with learning: attention difficulties, mood problems, personal problems; learning issues
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Academic Support and Career Counseling and/or Assistant Dean of Student Affairs;
Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
Preferred Work Experience
-Supervision of tutorial programs and staff
-Career Counseling in Medicine (AAMC program-Careers in Medicine)
-Experience in medical board licensing exams
-Experience in NRMP process
-Detailed oriented, flexible, organized, and multitask various priorities
-Experience interacting with medical and/or graduate students
