The University of Texas Medical Branch Medical Lab Scientist, Lab Services - Hematopathology Division in Galveston, Texas
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or related field. Must obtain certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Board of Histocompatibility or Immunogenetics (ABHI) or equivalent certification as appropriate, within 12 months of hire.
Medical Laboratory Scientist, Laboratory Services provides technical skills necessary to perform and report moderate or highly complex laboratory tests within a division of the clinical laboratory.
Salary Range **
The salary range for this position is from $53,600 to $80,400 annually, commensurate with experience.
This is a pay Band Code PC14.
Specific Job Related Duties **
Makes varied or specialized examinations efficiently, prioritizes and organizes workload.
Assesses and processes incoming samples properly.
Reviews and interprets data related to normal values based on age, sex and other pertinent conditions and reports patient results accurately with all required documentation.
Maintain reports as stated in procedures.
Interacts with other healthcare professionals in the interpretation of test results, following procedures.
Performs, records and evaluates quality control data according to procedures including checking expiration dates and documentation of QC performance before use.
Performs and documents required maintenance procedures as assigned; monitors inventory for proper levels and notifies person responsible for ordering and receives and stores supplies when delivered.
Perform maintenance and quality control measures for laboratory instruments and equipment, as directed and assigned.
Instruct and teach other employees, students and others.
Participate in evaluations of new tests or instruments, as assigned.
Review and suggest revisions for test procedures.
Adhere to all safety protocols in each laboratory area.
Performs related duties as required
Work Schedule **
The work schedule for this position is 10 hour shifts(9:00pm to 7:30am) 4 days per week, with rotating weekend and holiday coverage.
Preferred Work Experience **
Hematology experience a plus.
