Specific Job Related Duties
Cisco route/switch expert to provide technical support for a large enterprise network. Maintains a highly available network infrastructure to support a wide range of customers in an academic, research and hospital environment. Leads the design and technology decision making to support a scalable and robust enterprise infrastructure environment.
The Software Systems Staff Specialist works with technical management to design network and security infrastructure services addressing business and compliance requirements with best practices. This position is responsible for adhering to IT general controls and compliance to documented standards. A close working relationship with all areas of Information Services is critical to the success of this position.
Provides technical leadership and best practices design guidance to ensure that UTMB’s network infrastructure equipment is deployed and maintained in a high quality manner. This position assists UTMB by defining the technical direction and framework for service delivery and operational performance of Wide and Local Area Network and security related services. In addition, this position will also lead the design, implementation and maintenance of corporate LAN and WAN infrastructure projects.
Monday - Friday (40 hour week)
Cisco CCNP/CCDP/CCIE certification.
Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be able to interface with customers and colleagues at all levels.
Shares technical knowledge and skills with other team members to develop team members’ capabilities.
Demonstrate proficiency in WAN/LAN internetworking including design elements, cost versus performance tradeoffs, protocol interoperability, network architecture and requirements for testing/proof of concept.
Demonstrate advanced knowledge of systems (servers, firewalls, load balancers, storage) and how they interact with the network.
Possess and demonstrate advanced skills in gathering requirements, performing analysis and working with technical staff on complex design solutions.
Demonstrate advanced skills and knowledge and adherence to change management processes.
Demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to create and deliver presentations to peers and leadership.
Demonstrate strong customer service skills; interfaces well with customers, end users, partners and associates.
Experience in network security elements such as VPN, firewall and network security platforms Strong hands on experience with Cisco IOS enterprise devices including Cisco 3650/3850/6500/6800 switches.
Strong working knowledge and experience with the following technologies: TCP/IP, QoS, OSPF,EIGRP, SNMP, Spanning Tree.
Preferred Work Experience
Expert with Cisco enterprise routers and switches
Troubleshoot complex multi-vendor network issues in the LAN and WAN networks, and works with multiple teams to identify bottlenecks and other network configuration issues.
Experience effectively managing multiple assignments involving competing priorities.
Strong problem solving and analytic skills as well as the ability to handle urgent and multiple unplanned priorities.
Develop and communicate recommendations for procedures, technical standards and guidelines.
Experience designing large scale enterprise networks.
