Job Description:

The postdoctoral fellow will conduct, report and present research in his/her field of study under the supervision of a faculty mentor. This is a training position, and is not expected to be a permanent position.

Salary Range

Commensurate with experience for postdoctoral fellow salary stipends.

Specific Job Related Duties

Position for postdoctoral researchers interested in studying the cellular and molecular regulation of hydrogen sulfide in bacteria and in mammalian cells, in the context of infection, inflammation and critical illness.

Responsibilities of the positions are to establish a dynamic, independently funded research program while working synergistically with other investigators in the department to establish a center for inflammation research. Applicants who are looking to complete either a first postdoctoral period, or a second postdoctoral period will both be considered.

The successful applicant will be part of a dynamic group of investigators, will have access and training in state-of-the-art concepts and methods in the field of hydrogen sulfide biology, and will be jointly supervised by Drs. Csaba Szabo and Tracy Toliver-Kinsky. Location is UTMB Galveston.

Preferred Skill/Competency

Experience with state-of-the-art techniques of microbiology, immunology, molecular biology and pharmacology, preferably both using in vitro and in vivo models, is preferred for this position. A background in free radical research and/or gaseous mediators and/or critical illness is also preferable but not essential.

Preferred Work Experience

Applications will be considered in all areas of microbiology and/or immunology and inflammation research including, but not limited to bacterial invasion and infection, antimicrobial defenses, leukocyte activation and effector mechanisms, inflammatory cell responses.
