Min Qualifications

High school or equivalent. Must possess an Intermediate Certificate issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. At least two years experience as a full time commissioned police officer. Must hold a Peace Officer Commission - UT System, a Valid Texas Class C Driver's License.


To provide, service, information, and aid to all citizens as circumstances require; prevent crime, suppress disturbance, investigate criminal offenses, and arrest offenders.

Salary Range

Per the Police Career Ladder:

PO II (2 - 4 YOS) - $52,800

PO II (5 - 7 YOS) - $56,100

PO II ( 8 - 10 YOS) - $60,000

TCOLE Certification incentive pay up to $1,620 annually

Education incentive pay up to $1,140 annually

Specific Job Related Duties

Serves as the Campus Security Authority.

Perform law enforcement duties on the property under the control and jurisdiction of The University of Texas Medical Branch. Preserve the peace by the use of all lawful means, interceding, when authorized by law, to prevent or suppress crime. Provide service, information and directions to students, employees, and visitors. Execute all lawful process. Arrest offenders with and without warrant when authorized by law. Investigate criminal offenses to detect and arrest criminals, recover stolen or lost property. Attempt to locate missing persons. Enforce traffic lay by detecting violations, making violator contacts, placing violation in custody or issuing citations or warnings. Investigate motor vehicle collisions. Prepare reports on all activities, filing them with supervising officer. Identify potential security and safety hazards. Perform related duties as assigned.

Proficiency in all phases of duties performed. Must demonstrate logical, effective problem solving ability. Must be able to provide creditable testimony in a court of law.

Preferred Education

Prefer 30 college hours from an accredited college or university.

Preferred Skill/Competency

Holds a Peace Office Commission, issued by the Director of Police, The University of Texas System.

Cleared to work security sensitive environment. Must pass physical agility test, written test, background checks, drug testing, psychological testing, and polygraph.

This position requires completion of the typing test with a score of at least 20 words per minute. You must complete this testing at the approved location prior to being considered for this position. If you are a current UTMB employee, you may still need to test if it has been longer than a year, or if your current position did not require scores of 20 words per minute or better.
